Empire

Jonathan and I went to the opening party for the Big Night Entertainment Group’s newest restaurant on the waterfront, Empire, a couple weeks ago, and decided to head there for dinner the other night. Empire is a massive restaurant/lounge, specializing in pan-Asian cuisine. The Mr. is obsessed with Asian food, so he was very happy to go. We decided to order a bunch of small plates to share. But I don’t want to get ahead of myself – first things first – I have show you what we ordered to drink.

For me – The Dancing Geisha…

…and a Royal Saketini

For Jonathan – The Emperor’s Mule

All the drinks were delish but I especially loved the Dancing Geisha. Definitely fruity, and slightly sweet, but not to the point where it’s overpowering. The vodka, Lillet Blanc, pomegranete and lime worked really well together – Dangerous though – you could have four and not even realize it.

Next came food:

Crab Rangoons and Lobster Rangoons

Rainbow Roll, Chicken and Mushroom Dumplings

Beef Teppanyaki on Cedar

Yaki Udon Noodles

Warm Steamed Buns stuffed with braised Shiitake Mushrooms

All in all – everything was delicious. The Lobster Rangoons and Beef Teppanyaki were my favorites. The rangoons were drizzled with a sweet soy molasses that was so unique – the sweetness of the molasses combined with the saltiness of the soy was perfection. I need to get the recipe for it. The Teppanyaki was marinated in what was called a ‘soy tare.’ It had a similar consistency to the rangoons sauce, sticky and thick, but it was slightly less sweet, and was a great complement to the wagyu beef.

It’s a great place to go with a large group for dinner, or just to hang out in the bar/lounge area.

We’ll be back again soon. I absolutely recommend making a reservation if you plan to go (especially on a weekend night), they were booked solid when we went.
